the bill of lading  (B/L) is document by which a carrier acknowledges the receipt of goods for shipment

#. Document of Title
the bill of lading (B/L) is a document which serve as a document of title to the goods shipped, its represent title of the goods and can transfer the ownership of the goods.

#. Contract of Carriage
the bill of lading (B/L) is a document which that establish the term of carriage between shipper (merchant)  and carrier  (Shipping line/NVOCC).  merchant can be named direct shipper or consignee or NVOCC.

  • Received for shipment B/L : good have been received but not loaded on board the vessel. a received for shipment B/L only be accepted under a letter of credit if stipulated therein;.
  • On Deck B/L : usually it's for break-bulk cargo that can not be containerized. on deck B/L states that the cargo has been stowed on deck.
  • Clean B/L : clean B/L not contain of clauses or notation of the condition of goods or their packaging.  carrier will usually not agree to issue a clean of B/L for liability reason.  clean B/L most commonly required when Letter of credit involved
